Prior to joining Spine Stop Chiropractic, I took over a chiropractic office in Alabama during 2021. The office was already established so most of the patients were in an existing treatment plan.
Of all the people I helped during that time; one patient often comes to mind today. This patient had severe lower back pain and was about a month into his treatment. We met during my first week at the office so I didn’t know the full extent of his experience. His first appointment with me went well and I was excited to see him again!
Then came his second appointment. Where he mentioned he wasn’t feeling any better and was debating if he wanted to end treatment. This interaction made me feel like I was failing him but deep down I knew I could make a difference.
I wanted to see what his concerns were so we decided to speak in private. After listening for a while we decided to re-examine his first-day x-rays. Upon reviewing the images; it appeared he had more rotation in his pelvis than normal. Which signified the treatment plan definitely needed to change.
Within a week, he expressed that his back pain was improving and was happy with his progress. This was beyond thrilling for me to hear! Losing a patient this early into my new office would be absolutely crushing for me.
Shortly after our close-knit celebration, he told me about an underlying condition that wasn’t formally noted in his health records. He mentioned that he has suffered from severe seizures his entire life. It was to a point where he would have about 5-10 major and 25-50 minor seizures a week! As a result of his condition, it left him unable to ever drive a vehicle.
This was gut-wrenching for me to hear but I was glad he told me. His openness allowed me to continue his treatment with more of an understanding into his quality of life. Within a month of continued treatment, his back pain and seizures had greatly improved.
We kept seeing each other until I moved to Tennessee in 2023. Right before I moved, he told me he hasn’t had one seizure in 10 months and his pain was nearly non-existent! This was great news to hear and it is evidence that chiropractic care can have a huge impact on lives it touches.
